New Rabbit Thymes December 2008
|
Big News from PETCO
PETCO has announced it is getting out of the rabbit sales business! They are phasing out rabbit sales in all their stores, and will be heavily promoting rabbit adoption instead. Yippee! The in-store adoption model piloted here in the Twin Cities is now the model for the future of this large pet supply chain.
Read PETCO's announcement and see MCRS on KSTP to help spread the news.
If you'd like to help support this innovative program, MCRS is seeking volunteers for a number of PETCO locations around the metro area including Maplewood, Burnsville (new!), Eden Prairie, Richfield, Minnetonka, Fridley, Apple Valley, Brooklyn Park as well as in Mankato. Read more on our website.

Vote in the Shelter Challenge!
Petfinder's Shelter Challenge is going on now. Through Dec. 14th, you can cast one vote every day for MCRS. The organization with the most votes will win a grant of $25,000! Just go to the Shelter Challenge webpage and search for "Minnesota Companion Rabbit Society", then press the Vote button. The more bunny lovers we can rally to vote for MCSRS, the better our chances of winning. Get people involved!
Your favorite rescue organization is counting on you!

Santa Claus is Coming to Town
Christmas is coming ... will Santa visit you? If you'd like Santa and his impish elf Sassy to visit your holiday celebration this year, a couple of MCRS members can arrange an appearance! Even better, Santa's visit benefits the bunnies. If you're interested in making an appointment with Santa & Sassy, read more about it here. |
New Leaders at MCRS
Welcome to Holly Lang, our Adoption Director. She's been on board since April, but was never formally introduced to the membership.
Also, this issue of our online newsletter marks the return of Michelle Nephew as our Newsletter Coordinator. Michelle's ongoing goal will be to get the New Rabbit Thymes to you on a monthly basis.
And we're pleased to announce that Kaytea Prokop has agreed to become our Volunteer Coordinator. Kaytea will also continue volunteering at Highland Park PETCO, where she's been our Lead.
Finally, Erin Schultz has agreed to learn the Adoption Event Coordinator role. Erin has been to most events over the past six months and is familiar with our travelling "show." She also plans to continue her weekly volunteering at WSP PETCO.
There are still other leadership positions open at MCRS: Education Director, Development Director, Adoption
Event Coordinator (2nd), Bunny Buddy Coordinator, Foster Home Coordinator,
Major Event Planner, Volunteer Coordinator, and Membership Coordinator. If you're interested in becoming a MCRS leader, contact us!

The "Bobble" Bunny
MCRS would like to give a special thanks to Catherine Tolman, who recently made a large donation of $400 in honor of her "beloved bunny, Beejer." Catherine has also made smaller donations every month to us for at least as long as Cindy has been doing the books. Here's the text of the card she sent with her latest contribution: "Bejer is a 7-year Rex Bunny, and after what happened the end of last year, I'm blessed that she's still with me. Beejer suffered a stroke during a procedure and lost the ability to do things on her own, such as eating, hopping, and sitting. Her eyes told me she wasn't ready to give up, so I gladly spent extensive time with her rehabilitation. Beejer recovered about 90% of her abilities and I affectionately call her my "bobble" bunny. Her strength and determination will always be admired." |
I'm Dreaming of a White Rabbit ...
At this time of year when people start thinking of a white Christmas, perhaps you'll also consider thinking of one of the many white bunnies seeking homes. Plain white rabbits, especially those with pink eyes, often wait the longest to find homes. To help promote how wonderful these bunnies are, MCRS will be spending December promoting the joys of living with a white rabbit. MCRS currently has 11 pink-eyed rabbits in our care of all shapes and sizes. Some are singles, while others have bonded friends. See our Petfinder listing for more info, and please watch the website for a full feature on Dreaming of a White Rabbit coming soon! |
Marketing Coordinator's News
I came on board as Marketing Coordinator earlier this year. There are unlimited opportunities to gain exposure and I've tried to find ways that would best get MCRS out there. I explored many areas to get an idea of where I might start.
